FraudSleuth - An online search and email notification system to help detect possible fraudulent activity on your home or property.

The Butler County Recorder's Office wants to give local residents a way to detect possible fraudulent activity associated with their home.  

The Recorder's office has implemented FraudSleuth as part of the records search portal to protect your investment.  Our goal is to prevent the loss of time, money and worries associated with correcting mortgage, deed, and lien fraud.

How much does it cost to use FraudSleuth?
There are no fees to use FraudSleuth.  It is a free tool provided by the Butler County Recorder's Office to help detect fraudulent activity within the land records managed and maintained by the Butler County Recorder.


How do I sign-up for FraudSleuth?
On our Real Estate Search page, you create a new user account and follow the instructions to set up a FraudSleuth profile.  Once a FraudSleuth profile is created, alerts will be sent to the email address associated with the user account.


How does the FraudSleuth search functionality work?
The database searches using the name that you provide in your FraudSleuth profile.  By signing up for FraudSleuth, you will be notified by email of any documents that my have been recorded against your name.


My first name is often spelled many ways (i.e. Robert/Bob), how can I monitor the different spellings?
When you create a FraudSleuth profile, you can enter more than one spelling of your name to be monitored.


How long will I receive email alerts?
 Alerts will be received until cancelled by the user.

Will I receive alerts for other properties that I own in Ohio?
No, alerts will only be issued for documents recorded in the Butler County Recorder's Office.


Is it possible I may receive an alert which does not pertain to me?
Yes, this can occur if you have a common name or another party has the same name and has recorded a document at the Butler County Recorder's Office.


What if I receive an alert for a document which should not be recorded against my name?
In the event that fraud is suspected, please call our office at (513) 887-3192 for additional assistance and guidance.


Why can't the Recorder's office detect if a document is fraudulent?
The Recorder's office only records documents.  If documents presented for recording meet statutory requirements, the Recorder is legally required to record the documents.  The Recorder cannot verify the legality or accuracy of the documents filed in the office.
